Review: DAS Optics Solas Photochromic Sunglasses

The DAS Optics Solas Photochromic Sunglasses are surprisingly good!

I first heard about DAS Optics a couple years back when I was doing kids mt bike reveiws for Two Wheeling Tots. Chris at DAS Optics had sent me a pair of sunnies for me and one of my kids. And to be honest they seemed like decent glasses but those just didn't fit my face great and seemed to slide down my nose on higher speed trails with a bit of chunk. But so did my Pit Vipers, 100% and a couple of Amazon sunglasses I had picked up. Fast forward to now. Chris sent me out their newest product, the DAS Optics Solas Photochromic Sunglasses.

Immediately the Solas felt noticeably lighter and had a much better fit. They felt super comfortable and I could hardly notice they were on my face. The few rides I've had on them have been good and they aren't falling off my face through fast bumpy bits of trail. They also, have not had much issue with fogging and that is saying a lot because produce a lot of body heat and can fog up a pair of glasses faster than Usain Bolt can run 100 meters. I plan to use these glasses for split boarding as well, at least on the uphill where a pair of goggles would have me overheated in the first 10 feet of climbing. I have tried these with the Sweet Protection Bushwhacker 2VI Mips helmet, and the POC Kortal and Trabec helmets and they fit great with all of them.

The photochromic lens works pretty well in low light and sunny conditions, although when it's super bright out I do wish they darkened up just a bit more.

The best part about these glasses is they retail for $39.99 and DAS Optics donates $10 for every pair sold to a charity of your choice.

In Conclusion

For the price I honestly don't know if there is another pair of sunglasses I like better than the DAS Optics Solas. In fact they perform better than the other pair of glasses I own that cost up to 4 times the amount of these. They are light, comfortable, stay on my face and don't fog up too easy. Plus when you buy a pair from DAS Optics you can pick the non-profit of your choice.

Green safety goggles with clear lenses sit on a cardboard box. The background is blurred, creating a focus on the goggles.

Green sports glasses with "DAS OPTICS" text rest on a cardboard box. Out-of-focus colorful background.

Green and black sports sunglasses with clear lenses placed on a cardboard surface. The folded arms form a V-shape against the background.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Rad style

  • Great fit

  • Price

  • $10 goes to charity

  • lightweight

Cons

They don't say Oakley, Smith, 100%, etc.

The Solas also come in a mini version for the kids, or for people with kid sized faces.

Love my Solas mini! Like you said, they’re light, don’t restrict my breathing and barely noticeable when riding. Also, they cover enough area around my eyes, so no watery eyes in cold weather! I can also fit them perfectly with my POC Kortal Helmet.

They really are a great pair of glasses. Not a lot to complain about at all if anything.
