If you are looking for the most comfortable sleeping pad for car camping stop looking and buy yourself an Exped Mega Mat 10! I am not kidding even a little bit when I say this thing is more comfortable than the mattress on my bed at home! I've slept on this thing a few times and slept better than I've ever slept camping in my life. Also, my wife that has psoriatic arthritis, uses this when we go camping and she sleeps perfectly through the night. This thing is a game changer for her!
You can see from the pic below that it doesn't pack up super small, but this isn't made for backpacking. It's for driving to your camp spot kind of camping when you'll be sleeping in a tent, in back of a car or truck, or anywhere else you don't need to worry about saving space and grams. The Mega Mat 10 comes in three lengths and widths. I opted for the LXW as I am 6'4" and a bigger athletic build. The dimensions on the LXW are 77.6 in x 30.3 x 4 in.
MegaMat 10 has at its core 4 inches of soft foam for support and warmth. Horizontal air channels in the foam help reduce weight and packed volume without sacrificing comfort. To enhance the cradling effect, the mat’s surface features a brushed, stretch tricot polyester that relieves pressure points (hips and shoulders) while evenly supporting the body across all surfaces, head to foot.
MegaMat is self-inflating. When the inflate valve is opened, the foam expands and draws air into the mat. An EXPED Mini Pump is included to top-off the inflation and achieve the preferred firmness. The inflate FlatValve is equipped with a one-way flapper, allowing air to easily be purged during the night and with just the touch of a fingertip if you find the mat is too firm. A separate high-flow deflate FlatValve helps quickly purge air for stowage.
Vertical 3-D sidewalls allow the top surface to extend all the way out to the edge of the mat without tapering, maximizing the usable sleeping surface – just like a bed at home! I have been using the Exped Widget pump which makes things super easy and pumps up my other mattresses also!
